Keep up to date with a behind the scenes look at one of the world’s greatest collections of maritime objects.
Our collection contains about 2.48 million items featuring the most important holdings in the world on the history of Britain at sea, including maritime art (both British and 17th-century Dutch), cartography, manuscripts including official public records, ship models and plans plus scientific and navigational instruments.
Our British portraits collection is only exceeded in size by the National Portrait Gallery and our holdings relating to Nelson and Cook, among many other individuals, are unrivalled. We also have the world’s largest maritime historical reference library(100,000 volumes) including books dating back to the 15th century.
You can also view over 250,000 catalogue records and 90,000 images with Collections Online.
